Dear members and friends:
Over the years our Civic Association has been successful at bringing people together to enjoy dinners, music, and fellowship. For the coming 2025-2026 season we scheduled a full slate of events including four dinners, a neighborhood yard sale, and Bingo each Thursday evening. The proposed schedule is included as an attachment.
The Civic Association is at a Crossroads
Our Civic Association, however, has reached a "crossroads". Unfortunately, one of our key event leaders informed us that due to family health circumstances she cannot lead the two dinner events that were her "trademark" -- our Half-Chicken Dinner and Fall-off-the-Bones Rib Dinner. Upon receiving this news, we realized that among our small remaining group we do not have anyone who can step in and fill her shoes. The reality is that our leadership team has diminished so significantly that our entire scheduled slate of events is at risk.
At a recent "emergency meeting" the Board discussed the possibility of cancelling all dinner events and the scheduled yard sale given that we lack the "manpower" to orchestrate them. However, before making a decision that would effectively cancel the 2025-2026 season, we felt an obligation to explain the situation to the membership with the hope of attracting more members who would be willing to help, either by participating in Board meetings or leading an event.
Being more involved does not require a lot of time. The Association season runs from November through March, and our Board only meets once a month during that time.
Leading an event requires planning and organizational skills and a little more time commitment prior to and during the event. But with ample advice and assistance from our experienced event leaders and volunteers, and using our event planning checklist, leading an event can be a rewarding experience. The role of an event leader is not to do everything herself or himself, but to coordinate and effectively delegate duties and responsibilities to a team of volunteers in order to ensure a successful outcome.
Our next Board meeting is Wednesday, Nov 5th at 10:30am at the Civic Center. At that time we will decide whether to proceed with or cancel some or all of the events for this season. We would love to hear your perspective about the situation. A link to a brief formatted survey is included below. We hope that you will take a few minutes to help us by completing it.
The success of our Civic Association relies entirely on the involvement of its members. We understand that there are multiple demands on everyone's time, but even a small commitment to participate in leading the Association or leading an event could make a huge difference. In effect, the South Punta Gorda Heights Civic Association's future direction rests in your hands.
In order to make informed decisions about the coming season we ask that you complete a brief survey. You can easily access the survey by clicking on this link.
Civic Association Member Survey
Respectfully, we need your input before our next meeting and therefore ask that you complete it no later than Sunday, November 2nd. If you cannot access the form, feel free to send an email or call us.
We look forward to hearing from you and hope to see everyone at our events during the season. We will advise the membership of our decision regarding the coming season in mid-November. As always, we appreciate your support and value any comments, thoughts, or suggestions

🌟 Welcome to the best Civic Association in Charlotte County, where the magic happens, and events are an invitation to unforgettable moments! 🌟
🎉 We're not just hosting gatherings; we're creating opportunities to bring people together. One member said that our events are just like those that she experienced growing up in the mid-west.
🍹 Our leaders want to ensure that food is made from scratch and that events have a "sizzle" element -- every event includes dinner but also some form of social activity, like trivia contests, bingo, or guest speaker.
💃 Our events are well-attended. Please RSVP if you plan to come so that we make sure we have enough food.
👫 Connect in Style: We are making a big push into social media: Facebook, a website that works on your mobile device, texts, and emails.
🌈 Our events are the perfect backdrop for creating friendships, connections, and memories that will warm your heart for years to come. 🚀🎊
